Friday 'Red Flag Warning' issued for NW Oregon
The National Weather Service issued a red flag warning beginning Friday at 11 a.m. and ending at 10 p.m. the same day for much of northwest Oregon and beyond. Fire officials from the local and state level have been warning for several days now of extreme conditions that could lead to wildfires.

South Fork Forest Camp inmate escapes custody near Gales Creek Campground
Jedaiah Lunn, a South Fork Forest Camp inmate walked away from a work crew near the Gales Creek Campground Wednesday around 2:30 p.m., the Oregon Department of Corrections said in a press release. Minutes later, a carjacking occurred in the same area.

Burn ban enacted due to fire danger
Beginning at 12 p.m. Wednesday, all outdoor burning in Forest Grove Fire & Rescue's territory, the Banks Fire District, Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue and beyond will close due to fire danger. Those who start or allow a fire to spread could be on the hook for legal and firefighting costs.

Concern over fire danger mounts as April temperatures rise
"I've had wildfires as early as spring break, and some even in the dead of winter when we get a few days of clear cold east winds,” said Forest Grove Fire & Rescue PIO Dave Nemeyer in a message to the Gales Creek Journal. “Every one of those early fires was started by an out of control burn pile,” he said.
Less than 30 minutes later, fire crews were headed to an out-of-control burn pile on Strohmeyer Road.

ODF seeks to create clarity, rules when closing state forestland
As wildfires spread across the western portion of the state in September 2020, the Tillamook State Forest and others across the state were declared closed by the Oregon Department of Forestry.
