The Forest Grove School District board met Monday evening for a special board meeting to discuss the next steps in selecting a new superintendent to lead the administration of schools in Gales Creek, Dilley, Forest Grove, and Cornelius.
A survey to gather input from community members, staff, students and other stakeholders in the Forest Grove School District as the district begins a search for a new superintendent has opened as of Monday, January 8.
On July 1, 2024, a new superintendent will have their first day on the job, leading the administration of schools in Gales Creek, Dilley, Cornelius, and Forest Grove. But before that, a series of interviews, outreach, meetings, and more will be held to find the next Forest Grove School District superintendent.
“Due to a fire alarm that is unable to be turned off at Forest Grove High School, there will be a two hour delay to the start of school at FGHS. We apologize for the inconvenience,” the district said.
The Oregon Board of Education on Thursday voted unanimously to pause a decade-old requirement that students show additional proficiencies in reading, writing and other skills on top of taking regular courses in those subjects. The essential skills requirement will be suspended through the 2027-28 school year.
Details were scarce following an incident that closed Oak Grove Academy, housed in the old Gales Creek Elementary School, but the school district said damage was done to windows and doors following an incident with a student.

With the passage of measure 34-320, a Forest Grove School District bond to replace Cornelius Elementary School and fund a number of other projects, some of those dollars raised will make their way to schools in Gales Creek and Dilley.
